Last night we had the potential to have more storms. Severe thunderstorm warning, tornado watch. Since the tragedy of Joplin I just can't stop thinking about displaced , or hurt or killed children. My heart hurts so bad.
So last night when it started up again, I kept trying to keep myself occupied because I am my father's daughter and when I lay my head down, I am asleep. I was afraid I wouldn't hear the sirens. I laid in bed wishing I had a king size bed so I could bring Emery in to sleep with us. (Eladie is still in the pack-n-play in our room.)
I think I only felt that way because we are only 43 miles east of Joplin and the tornado hit so close to home this time. Tragedy never hits so close. But this time it did. We had debris in our yard from Joplin.
I had never thought of this until my parents mentioned it to me last night: "If the sirens go off and you go to your shelter, put Eladie in the body carrier and tie Emery to you."
Oh my goodness.
But the real-life, personal stories are so heart breaking.
Our church, First Baptist, had partnered up with Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin. (Fun fact: We were the runner up for the Student Minister job there before we moved to Texas...) They are now a Red Cross Emergency Shelter and they have at least 20 church families whose homes were destroyed. Ryan has been to Joplin twice delivering water, diapers, baby blankets and on Friday he is delivering sandwiches that FBC is making to feed the people staying at the Forest Park.
Continue to keep the people of Joplin, the emergency workers and volunteers in your prayers. They desperately need it.

Random Updates
So I'm pretty sure that when you're trying to lose weight, that's when everything that you shouldn't eat sounds so incredibly delicious. Good news is, I'm doing decent at saying no to those delectables...except when it comes to Casey's pizza. Way too yummy. AND I've been walking/jogging everyday for 30-40 minutes. Totally. Doable.
Ryan is also feeling tons better. He had a sinus infection and an upper respiratory infection. He actually went to the doc (which means he REALLY felt bad) and got some meds and he can breathe again.
Eladie has a cold. Hopefully today was the worst of it. Her poor eyes are runny and her nose is stuffy which means we have to use the "nose sucker". She doesn't have a fever so that's good. I hope tomorrow she feels better. She just looks miserable.
Emery is just as spazzy as ever. Her and I went on a walk together yesterday then stopped by the park to swing. I think she enjoyed the Emery-Mommy time. I know I did. She is WAY into Jimmy Neutron right now. She calls it "Jimmy New-drunk" though and refuses to be corrected.
*Ryan just turned off "Jimmy New-drunk" and Emery asked to "watch dresses together?" Which means she wants to watch Say Yes to the Dress because we've been watching that show all together. How can you say no to that?!*

Work it!
So I have to exercise. Not only because I have some extra baby weight, but more importantly, my bridesmaid dress for Becca's wedding is super tight. Good news is - it zips...I just can't breathe. :)
Therefore Tuesday I started my workout. I took my dog on my walk/jog and he is just as out of shape as I am! So this is only day 3, but I'm feeling positive.
44 days and 5-10lbs. Totally doable...

Blah!
I really need to do something with this mop of hair on my head. I am in constant battle with my hair and I need to do something about it. I guess I'll start with dying it, because half the time I hate my hair, chop it off, then hate it more and decide I should have just dyed it instead of making chopping it.
I don't really want to do something to drastic at this point because I want to have a pretty updo for Becca's wedding in June and the other 2 bridesmaids have long hair and will for sure have pretty hair. And that's another thing...how do you pick a hairstyle?! I've only had my hair professionally done once and that was at my wedding and I really didn't like it. (At the time I wasn't outspoken enough to say anything about it).
Anyway, back to the original idea of this blog...
I'm taking suggestions. With pictures. Please. And thank you.

Egg-stravaganza!
This was her first experience coloring eggs. She thoroughly enjoyed it. After she was done, Ryan "hid" them in the front yard. She collected them all in her Dora backpack. I think she might have been a little disappointed there was no candy inside the eggs. But they sure were delicious later.

The Story
I know I'm interested in "the story" of labor/delivery of my friends, so here's Eladie's...in case you're interested too.
I had my 38week appt. on Friday the 8th and the doc said I was 2cm and 75% effaced (sorry if that kinda grosses you out, because it kinda grosses me out). I asked how long past my due date we would go before talking about inducing and she said anytime after the 21st, but she was sure, could practically guarantee we would be home and settled before Easter.
We had been walking about a mile twice a day for the last week or so. Saturday was no different. We walked and it was nice outside, talked about going to SDC, decided it would be too crowded because it was Saturday and just hung out at home.
Sunday. Felt terrible all during church that morning and like a zombie all day. I thought since I felt so off, that this would be the day. Nope. Went to bed around 9pm.
3am. Woke up to some decent cramps and after a few rounds decided they were the real contractions. I started timing them and they were 8 minutes apart. They were strong enough to keep me awake, so I just timed them until Emery started crying at like 6 and went in and laid with her until she got up around 7. After I got up, the contractions slowed down so after an hour or so, Emery and I went on our walk and I had a few more; nothing to write home about, but still there at least. So, since I had been up since 3am I did what came natural to me. Clean my ENTIRE house. Seriously?! Any other day I would have had Emery pick a movie then grab my pillow and zonk out on the couch. Not today though. That afternoon I was able to sleep for about an hour during Em's nap. Ryan got home at around 4 and wanted to mow the grass so while he was in the garage I had him toss in the exercise ball so I could sit on it because a friend of mine said that's how she went into labor.
5:10pm. Contractions start up again and this time stronger than I had felt all day. They continued 6-7 minutes apart for an hour, so we decided to call Catherine to come hang with Emery while we take a trip to the hospital. It's about an hour from Bolivar to Mt Vernon and in the meantime they pick up in intensity and go to about every 5 minutes.
Now with Emery, my water broke, so I knew when to go in. I really didn't want to drive all the way to Springfield just to be sent back, so I kept telling Ryan I wasn't sure if we should go in so soon, but thank goodness I have a husband who knows better than I do.
By the time Catherine got here though, I was definitely ready to go in. It's so crazy to be in such pain for 60 seconds and then it stop for a few minutes.
At the hospital I go to L&D triage and I'm at a 5. I get back to an actual delivery room and they start the IV and draw blood so I can get the sweet, sweet epidural. About 30 minutes later doc comes in to check me/break my water and I'm at a 9.5. Woooo! Next contraction puts me at a 10. Woooo!
11 minutes and 9 pushes later....voila! Eladie Mae is here! 6lbs, 13oz, 20.5in @ 10:12pm.
5 hour and 2 minute labor start to baby. I dig it.
We barely got there in time for the epidural. I got into the delivery room at 8:30 and had her at 10:12. I sure am glad we got there in time. (If you're thinking I'm a weenie, I would just like to say that I had 2 cavities drilled and filled on the same day without any pain medication at all...) But really I love whoever invented that drug.
So now we're home and going through a bit of an adjustment period. Emery is doing pretty well, but it's only day 2 being home. She's so laid back, I know we'll get our routine going again soon and she'll get used to being a big sister and not just the only child. I missed her so much while I was at the hospital, all I want to do is snuggle up with her!
Ok, this is gone on long enough.

One of These Days
One of these days I will have this kid. I am anxious and very ready. Although it would be nice to wait a little later in the week because Ryan gets paid Thursday and we are in desperate need of grocery shopping. Besides that, I feel like we are basically ready for Eladie's arrival. I started gathering a bag together to take to the hospital, Ryan got the car seat out.
Here's an update!
Here's an update!
*How far along?: few days shy of 38 weeks
*How big is your baby?: The doc said she was guessing a little under 6 lbs.
*Total weight gain?: 20 pounds...I'm 10 pounds less with this one than with Emery....good news!
*Sex: Girl
*Maternity clothes: Ugh, I totally feel like I've outgrown even these.
*Stretch marks: Nope!
*Movement: She's taking up so much room now, I have to concentrate on her to feel her moving half the time.
*Sleep: Sleep some, pee some. Repeat.
*Best moment this week: Car seat is in!
*Food cravings: Nothing in particular.
*Labor signs: I have contractions everyday and I'm 2cm dilated, 60% effaced.
*Belly button in or out: Still WAAAAY out.
*What I miss: Laying on my stomach!!!
*What I'm looking forward to: Having this baby at any time!
I feel as if there's not a whole lot of new things going on in the McMillian house. Emery has got the hang of the big girl bed and we've had a few successful pees on the "potty chair" but I'm not worried about pushing it with such a big change coming her way very soon. Emery also has been into singing ALL the time. Some of her favorites are Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, the theme to The Wonder Pets and as of recent, Jesus Loves Me. She also digs singing the alphabet, and she gets the beginning and the end, but some of the letters in the middle get a bit jumbled. Super cute.
Hopefully my next post will contain pics of our new baby girl!
